Theodore Roosevelt

I visited Teddy Roosevelt's grave at Young's Memorial Cemetery in Oyster Bay, New York on March 9, 1999. It is a short distance from Sagamore Hill.

The experience gave me my first cemetery break-in. The sign in front of the graveyard said it opened at noon, (it was a Sunday) and we were there at 12:15, but the gate was still locked. My friend, Joe, and I went around the side of the cemetery and jumped the fence. Although there was some snow on the ground, it didn't take long to find Teddy's grave. It's not a very big cemetery. When we left, we had to jump the fence to get out.

Me at Teddy's grave. I didn't dare jump the fence around the plot, although I thought about it.

Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site. I visited there on March 8, 1999, although I went in, I didn't tour the house because my friend was double parked on the narrow Manhattan street because we couldn't find a parking spot.
